4,500 children will die today from diseases caused by a lack of safe drinking water and proper sanitation. That’s one child every 15 seconds. Contaminated water kills 2.2 million people each year, more than all forms of violence, including war. One in six of us, 1.1 billion people, do not have access to clean, safe water. Millions, mostly women and children, walk more than 3 hours a day to find unsafe water to haul back to their villages. Their full yellow containers weigh 40 pounds each. In Africa, 40 billion hours are spent each year collecting water, reducing time available for generating an income and attending school. Only $20 can give one person in Africa clean drinking water for 20 years. 100% of money donated to charity: water is used to build and rehabilitate freshwater wells in Africa, India, Honduras and Bangladesh.
